What am I ?

This bird is a New Zealand native bird. Many people say that it flew over to New Zealand.
It has a plumage of iridescent blue feathers. The wings are black with a slight greenish gloss. Underneath the tail is a patch of clouds as white as snow ready to flash like an alarm! The beak is like a shining red ruby matching it's stringy legs. All their chests are like a sky blue with a little splotch of black.

What do you think I am?

Flicker!

Mihimihi Lover
New Zealand is a great place to live in because we can learn about the past and ask our self many questions like..... What is my mountain? What is my tribe? and Where in New Zealand do I come from?

Kia ora, Malo e lelei and greetings to you all from New Zealand.

My name is " Alaimaluloa but you can call me Ala, I am a 10 year old student at Pt England school of Maori and Tongan ethnicity. I have many friends at my school and most of them are on flicker too, but I look forward to making more friends from around the world.

What I am really excited about through Rock Our World is designing the best ever NIKE shoe and conferencing with D' Wayne Edward! I am good at artwork, love bright colours and I play lots of sports! I think this will inspire me to invent and create a cool nike shoe.

Having a chance to work with Rock Our World is a privilege, it is world wide and helps young people to make our world a better place for the future.

Thank you for reading my description, I hope that you have learnt a little bit about me and what I am passionate about.

No reira tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa.

Van Gough

It's Friday 5Th of march and we are learning about the art of Van Gough. Van Gough was a really poor man that would at least buy paint then buy FOOD! Then Miss garden told me that he chopped his own ear off. Then she told me that he shot him self because he was really angry. I blocked my ears not wanting to know the rest.

We had to sketch the art work that he had designed to learn the lines. Once I had started I was struggling to do just one line! I couldn't help but making it my own one. But then I got it ! I was so happy that I was jumping up and down in my sit. Miss Garden gave us some paint and gave us a paint brush lesson. And then..

To Be Continued...........

The Water Game

In Jamaica women carry buckets of water to transport from there house to there family's. Woman usually have to walk long distances to fetch for water. They usually use steel buckets or plastic buckets to use .The Zulu people have a cycle to get water. This had been going on for years now but is still happening today. With a splosh and a splash I filled the container and whispered to myself " Why meeeee!", the cold icy water was making me shiver, I couldn't help but watch it move side to side .
I was in team 2!
It was a really cold morning, still awakening from my sleep. Miss Garden had suggested to not get wet. But the water had washed out my whole T-shirt. That water was even colder then it was when we started ,it was like an ice-cube sliding down my back .The bucket was tempting me to soak myself some more but I just couldn't help it, I got the container and put it back on my head with a splash, splosh and a whoosh. "This will have to be a really good wash in the washing machine" I whispered to myself.

Looking around I could see one particular team getting ahead of us but I did not want that to happen. So , I filled the container up once again and used my instincts to NOT drop it .Walking slowly I nearly tripped over but with luck on my side I made it. I tried it again and I started to run as fast as I could to the yellow bucket. Tipping it with a slight lean I quickly ran back to the bucket. As I put my hand into the creamy coloured bucket I took it back out with a splosh and a splash that went all over my uniform.

Feeling a cold breeze come by I shivered like a shivering mouse scared that a cat might eat it." Go Selena , go" I said out a loud. Jittery and jumpy I was not going to let the team come last. Being a good sportsmen I cheered my team on.Miss Garden had been refilling buckets back up with warm water, it was a little bit strange but I got over it.

Smelling my t-shirt with a sniff it did smell soggy like soggy old SOCKS!.
Eagerly awaiting for Mr Hunia to announce the winning team I started to bite the tips of my finger nails..... The winning team is TEAM 2.

I think that at the end of a fantastic day it all ends out great. Even though my T-shirt will be smelly all day today I think that the winning team can not just always be the winning team but also a supporting team.

My First EVER Presentation!

Jittery and jumpy I nervously awaited for my turn to come . It was Monday 22nd of February and it was the presentation day. We had to present our work in front of visitors form AMERICA! My heart was beating like it never has before . This was my very first experience, talking in front of visitors. " Will I succeed" I nervously said to myself.

Talking in front of visitors was a struggling thing to do and I couldn't stop but trying to make you smile. Seeing you, visitors I didn't think I could do it.

The thing that I think I need to work on is when there are full stops I need to at least stop for 2 seconds and that I need to sound out the words properly.

Thanks a lot for coming to Pt England School it was a real privilege. I hope we see YOU again.

My Highlights for This YEAR!

Ko Ala toku ingoa, ko Maungarae toku maunga, ko tamiki toku awa, ko Pt England toku Kura. Hi ! As everybody knows my name is Ala . My Highlights through out this YEAR is  performing and taking part in our school production.

This year I think that through out this whole year I had performed like a Pt England school kid should have but I have been talking to much in the classroom when I am not supposed too but I think I'll wait for Christmas to see if Santa has put me on the good list!

I think that I have been a good team member to my friends and to the classroom and especially to my wonderful teacher Ms Squires. Having this experience is really a special thing to me. I also think that it has been a fun ride being a year 5! Thanks allot Ms Squires!!!

Thinking back to term 1 I had finished all of my tasks that we were supposed to do this year for 2009.I feel really proud of my self to actually do these animations and then look back, to see what I have done!

What I need to improve for 2010 is to concentrate more on my exams to try and get a better mark from this year! Improving each day is my goal for next year!!

Even though it's hard and sometimes it is easy we just need to strive to succeed so we can reach for the STARS!!

Maori Land !

What they have Shared !
Maori people have now traditionally shared Aotearoa in a special relationship with whanau ( land ) from which cultural, spiritual , emotional and physical sustenance is derived .

Maori people define Themselves!

Maori people define themselves by their iwi (tribe), hapu (sub-tribe), maunga (mountain) and awa (river). Whanau is the name given to family - the term embraces immediate family, in-laws and all those connected by blood ties.

Benefit of Maori !

Land (other than Māori customary land) that has not been alienated from the Crown or benefit of Māori shall have the status of Crown land reserved for Māori.

Maori trustees !

Maori people choose trustees to look after the maori land because Trustees are appointed for life or such term as set out in the trust deed. Trustees can apply to the court to be removed - only the court can remove a trustee but it depens which trust it is.
